In partnership with the Civil War Trails, Inc., the West Virginia Division of Tourism a statewide Civil War signage/tourism marketing project. Using the same brand of interpretive signs commonly found along highways in Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina and Tennessee, West Virginia is benefit from the regional branding and cross-promotion that Civil War Trails offer. With the upcoming sesquicentennial (150th) commemoration of the Civil War and the birth of West Virginia’s statehood, the state and the city of Charleston will greatly benefit from this project.

The River City Youth Ballet collaborates once more with the West Virginia Youth Symphony in staging Prokofiev’s “Peter and the Wolf” on Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at the Clay Center. The story is spoken by a narrator accompanied by the orchestra which represents each dancing character with a particular instrument and musical theme. Sergei Prokofiev was commissioned by the Central Children’s Theatre in Moscow in 1936 to write this musical symphony specifically to cultivate musical tastes in children.
