The East End Family Resource Center (EEFRC) is hosting its 7th Annual Heart & Soul Dip Dinner, Saturday, February 18 from 1-5 pm at the West Virginia National Guard Armory located on Coonskin Drive. This the EEFRC have partnered with Crowder’s Auction which will be from 4 – 8 pm who will donate a portion of sales to the East End Family Resource Center.

The next Festival of Ideas — sponsored by The Charleston Gazette and West Virginia University, will be at 7:30 PM 4th April 2012, at the state Culture Center in the Capitol Complex. All lectures are free and open to the public.
Scheduled participants are Andy Carvin of National Public Radio’s social media desk; Cairo-based journalist Issandr El Amrani; Jillian York, a free expression specialist of the Electronic Frontier Foundation; Jigar Mehta, president of the South Asia Journalist Association; and Nasser Weddady, a human rights officer of the American Islamic Congress.

The West Virginia Division of Culture and History will celebrate Black History Month with films, lectures, and other events. All events will be held at the Culture Center. All activities are free and the public is invited to attend.
West Virginia native and award-winning filmmaker Mari-Lynn Evans will present the PBS documentary project “Hawks Nest: Blood Beneath Our Feet” at 3 p.m. Feb. 19. Evans will introduce several speakers and musical guests. Everyone also will receive a free sapling, courtesy of the West Virginia Highlands Conservancy.

The Arts Council of Kanawha Valley will host “Marketing Yourself,” a workshop for for artists to use to market their art and identity.
Instructor Mark Wolfe of Mark Wolfe Design will be giving the talk at the Habitat for Humanity Homeowner Education and Conference Center, from 1 to 3 p.m. Feb. 25. Humanity Homeowner Education and Conference Center is at 815 Court St. The fee is $20.

The Almost Heaven Chorus female barbershop groups will be traveling throughout the Kanawha Valley on Tuesday. Songs will be delivered to sweethearts, spouses, or just someone who could use a lift.
For musical Valentine delivery, songs will be sung 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Popular Valentine tunes are “Love Me Tender,” “If I Had My Way,” and “I Love You a Bushel and a Peck.” However, the ladies are open to other requests.

Serenade your special someone on Valentine’s Day, to be delivered by the Kanawha Kordsmen Barbershop Quartet.
For $55, give your honey two songs, a personalized card, a silk rose and chocolates in a heart-shaped box. The Barbershop Quartet say the most popular tunes are “Heart of My Heart, I Love You” and “Let Me Call You Sweetheart.”
Quartets will be delivering their sweet musical messages throughout Kanawha and Putnam counties as well as in the Huntington area, he said. Tunes will be sung from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday.

Gwyn Cready — winner of an RITA award for romance novels, will talk about the risks and rewards of stealing from Jane Austen for her novel “Romancing Mister Darcy”, her take on the Austen classic “Pride and Prejudice”.
The talk will take place at at 1 PM on 14th February at Cross Lanes Branch Library.
She’ll also talk about her long and winding road to publication, and will sell and sign copies of all of her books, including her latest, “A Novel Seduction.”

Two digital photo workshops will be hosted by photographer Thorney Lieberman in February at his studio at 1514 Virginia Street.
“Introduction to Digital Photography” runs from 3 to 5 PM for three Sundays, beginning 12th February.
Meanwhile, “Introduction to Photoshop and Lightroom” will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 PM on Thursdays beginning 9th February.

The Art Emporium will feature the recent works of T. Paige Dalporto in a show titled “Indelible,” opening Monday. An opening reception will be held from 5:30 to 8 PM Thursday.

The Habitat for Humanity ReStore will host a do-it-yourself workshop entitled “Creative Light Fixtures”. The event will he held this Saturday from 1 to 4 PM at the Homeowner Education and Community Center on 815 Court St.
The $25 fee covers electrical supplies and an assortment of creative items. Participants are encouraged to bring creative items from home.
