The latest addition to the Charleston ArtWalk is the bold, brash, and exhilarating contemporary art and furnishings shop, Modern by Design. Opened in May 2011, the store features a fine collection of modern artwork and furniture reminiscent of its equally mod and iconic predecessor, The Purple Moon.
Art Emporium on 823 Quarrier Street provides not just art supplies, framing services, and other basics of the trade for Charleston’s artists, photographers, and sculptors. The Emporium also houses a large collection of locally-made glassware, pottery, framed paintings, and wall pieces by local artists.
If you feel like doing more than just picking out something from a catalog, the non-profit Good News Mountaineer Garage is the place to be. The attached gallery space to their office is home to Charleston’s new crop of cutting edge artists. Purchases from the gallery will fund the garage’s projects to help fellow West Virginians help themselves.
