The last three Art Walks of the year have been slated every third week of the month for the next four months. They will be on: 21st October, 26th November, and 16Th December 2010. The walk will start at 5:00 p.m. and end at 8:00 p.m.
Some of the galleries and shops featured on previous Art Walks have proven to be very special. Gallery Eleven on 1033 Quarrier Street is owned and staffed by the artists whose work hang on the walls, making it a very inspiring and welcoming place to appreciate and purchase art. The store has been a Charleston institution since 1975, and is a testament to the artistic spirit of the city and its inhabitants.
Art Emporium on 823 Quarrier Street on the other hand nurtures budding artist in Charleston, with its extensive range of artist supplies for beginners, hobbyists, and professionals, as well as a large open space for homegrown artists to display their work. You can view and purchase locally-made glassware, pottery, framed paintings, and large wall pieces.
Last but not least is Stray Dog Antiques on 219 Hale Street; don’t let the name fool you – the art on display is nothing to sniff at. Stray Dog features a veritable treasure trove of art, jewelry, antiques, and vintage clothing.. Fill the gaps in your collection while browsing their charmingly arranged stacks of costume jewelry, Venetian glass, and turquoise and silver accessories.
The Charleston Art Walk is a project of Charleston galleries and art shops to showcase the city’s bustling art scene to tourists and local alike.
