Heart & Soul Dip Dinner and Auction

The East End Family Resource Center (EEFRC) is hosting its 7th Annual Heart & Soul Dip Dinner, Saturday, February 18 from 1-5 pm at the West Virginia National Guard Armory located on Coonskin Drive. This the EEFRC have partnered with Crowder’s Auction which will be from 4 – 8 pm who will donate a portion of sales to the East End Family Resource Center.

During a brainstorming session six years ago the Board of Directors of the East End Family Resource Center thought that a “Dip Dinner” was a way to bring the community together and host a fund raiser. It was decided that the best time to hold this dinner would be in February, about the time people are looking for something to do after the cold winter months. Since February is Black History Month and also Valentine’s Day we named this event the Heart and Soul Dip Dinner.

You may be wondering “What is a Dip Dinner?” A Dip Dinner is simply an event where attendees purchase tickets for 50 cents each. They use the tickets to purchase a “Dip” or serving spoon portion of a side dish. Entrees and Desserts range in price from 2 – 6 tickets. Beverages are 1 – 2 tickets. Take out boxes are 1 ticket. It is very similar to the “Taste of Charleston” only with good ole’ home cooked soul foods made with lots of love.

Local churches, businesses and individuals support this fund raiser by preparing and donating food. The EEFRC provide a table for each group to serve their very best dishes during the event. Of course there is always some good natured competition to see who has the best meal, specialty dish or dessert. It is easy to see why this has become a favorite event for many folks in the Charleston Area.

Proceeds from this event will help support the many programs of the East End Family Resource Center located in the Roosevelt Neighborhood Center at 506 Ruffner Avenue. The Mission of the East End Family Resource Center (EEFRC) “is building bridges of opportunities” by giving residents of the East End of Charleston the opportunity to achieve.
