Description: Celebrate summer in southern style at the first “Night at the Museum” presented by Friends of Clay Center. Enjoy live music, dancing, complimentary cocktails and southern fare at Backyard Bluegrass: Mandolins and Mason Jars, Friday, August 17 at 8 p.m.

Local bluegrass band The Fort Hillbillies will provide live music in the Clay Center’s Susan Runyan Maier Sculpture Garden, where guests can take a few turns around the dance floor and nibble on southern-style snacks prepared by Embassy Suites. Smooth Ambler Spirits will also be on site to pass out samples of their signature white whiskey drinks.

Friends of Clay Center board member Tim Gibson said the first-time event is the kick-off to a new series of evening outings for the organization.

“In the past, Friends has been an organization focused primarily on fundraising,” he said. “With events like this one, we’re excited to expand into a young professionals group that celebrates the arts and sciences through fun, unique parties and networking opportunities.”

While at the Center, guests can explore three interesting exhibits in the art gallery. Cast your vote in a battle for bragging rights in “Gallery Divided: A Head-to-Head Matchup between Marshall and WVU Art Faculty.” Plus, see black-and-white photos of legendary rockers in “Artist to Icon: Early Photographs of Elvis, Dylan and the Beatles” and check out the works of 20 international artists in “The Edge of Vision: Abstraction in Contemporary Photography.”
