Description: MSACF Through the Years
The Mountain State Art & Craft Fair, which is held annually on the Thursday through Saturday during the first weekend in July, began in 1963 as part of West Virginia’s Centennial celebration. Fifty-four artisans and crafters participated in that first fair. That year the fair attracted just over 6,500 attendees and has grown substantially in the years since. Last year the fair brought together approximately 15,000 people over the three days of the event to experience the very best in Appalachian artisan products and demonstrations, entertainment, food and family activities. Artisans who exhibit at the fair are selected by a jury of craft experts and the number of out-of-state exhibitors is limited to 25% of the total number of exhibitors. All products represent some form of traditional or contemporary Appalachian arts and crafts.
Over the years the Mountain State Art & Craft Fair has become one of the leading arts and crafts fairs in the nation. The event has been named among the top five traditional crafts shows in Sunshine Artist magazine and has been featured in the travel guide Best Festivals Mid-Atlantic.
