Smoke on the Water

8 June 2012 80 views No Comment

Get your stomachs ready for the 14th Annual Smoke on the Water Chili Cookoff. On June 16, participants (and tasters) will gather at the Haddad Riverfront Park on Kanawha Boulevard for this much awaited event.

Registration opens at 8am and stoves are lit at 10. There are activities throughout the day aside from the cook off, like activities for the children, sponsored by the YMCA of Kanawha Valley and the Tri-County YMCA on the Boulevard, and a frozen t-shirt contest.

For those with a more active interest, a five-mile Run for Your Life race is something worth joining. Registration fee for the race is $15 for those registering before June 9, $20 for those registering after. Proceeds from the race will benefit the CAMC Foundation, in support for colorectal cancer awareness and screening.

Chili sampling, of course, is in the agenda. Sampling ticket sales beging at 11:15 am, with tasting starting at 11:30 until supplies last. Proceeds from the sampling ticket sales goes towards HospiceCare, which serves 16 counties across Central West Virginia.
