Taylor Books – Charleston’s much-beloved independent book store and art space, is having a month-long celebration of all things Roald Dahl! Drop by the store to see their whimsical displays inspired by classic Roald Dahl titles such as “The Fantastic Mr. Fox”, “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”, “The Witches”, and many more! You can also take part in a reading competition to win a copy of the brand new Roald Dahl book “The Missing Golden Ticket and Other Splendiferous Secrets”!
Included in the new book is a never-before-published “missing chapter” from “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” entitled “Spotty Powder”. In “Spotty Powder”, we meet Miranda Mary Piker — one of several “nasty children” who didn’t make it into the final version of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” when it was first published in 1964.
“Spotty Powder” first appeared on The Times of London in 2005, when it was found among Dahl’s papers by the Dahl Estate and people from Puffin Books. “The Missing Golden Ticket and Other Splendiferous Secrets” was published in the UK in May to coincide with Puffin UK’s 70th anniversary. Its US release date on the other hand coincides with Roald Dahl Month in September, since the Roald Dahl’s birthday is on the 13th of September.
Taylor Books is also inviting children of all ages to submit artwork of their favorite scene from one of Dahl’s books. All artwork will be put on display in the store, plus a super secret special gift may be given to all the budding artists! See you all there!
