After the success of its very first event, the organizers are once again inviting students and history buffs to the finals of the 2nd West Virginia State History Bowl to be held on 26th April 2011.
Unlike last year’s invitational, this year’s event will be a knock-out competition by as many as seventy different teams from schools all over West Virginia. Teams composed of eight graders will compete against each other on historical topics covering events, people, landmarks, and many more.
The West Virginia Division of Culture and History will be holding eight elimination rounds, and only the very best teams of five students each will make it to Charleston for the State History Bowl.
“It gives [the students] the opportunity to use something that they’re using already, to learn a lot more, and get a deep knowledge. Competition brings out the best in everyone and makes them really want to know West Virginia history better than the teams they’re playing against.” said Bryan Ward, Assistant Director of Archives and History at the West Virginia Division of Culture and History.
