“The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee”

The Charleston Light Opera Guild presents the musical comedy “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” on stage starting this Saturday, January 19 through February 4, 2018 at the Charleston Light Opera Guild Theater.

Set in the gymnasium of the Putnam Valley Middle School, the musical centers on a fictional spelling bee participated in by an eclectic group of six quirky middle school students, each one eager to win for various reasons, run by an equally quirky group of three adults. Four audience members will be picked from the audience to participate in the spelling be with the cast.

Based on a book by Rachel Sheinkin and scored by William Finn, this 2005 broadway production won a Tony award and a Drama Desk Award for the book.

The musical will be on stage on January 19, 20, 26, 27, and 28, February 2, 3, and 4. Tickets costs $20, and is available for purchase online.
