Description: The Annual Charleston Christmas Parade will be held Saturday morning, December 8, 2012, with step-off at 10:00 AM sharp. We invite your participation! The parade lines up beginning at 9:00 AM on Court Street and Washington Street E. Depending on how many participants will determine how many units will be in the parade. Please keep in mind of road closures! The parade route goes south on Court to Virginia Street then east on Virginia to Capitol – north on Capitol to Washington and crossing Washington Street where units may disband or go back to the Court Street line up area where the parade began.
All entries must be decorated. Craftsmanship on every float must produce a neat decorative effect following the chosen theme thereby pleasing all who view your entry. Charleston Town Center once again will be judging the floats shortly after 9:00 AM so it is crucial that you are on time for the lineup. Always keep in mind of traffic, road closures, and other obstacles that may hinder your entry from being on time. If your unit is not on time, it may not be judged! If anything, please plan to come early! Awards will be presented as you pass the “Review Stand” in front of the Town Center’s Court Street entrance. (Guidelines for the float will be mailed after you send in your application.)
No plain vehicles are allowed in the Christmas Parade other than those pulling floats, carrying elected officials or beauty queens! No political or controversial issues may be represented or alluded to in any way on a float. Please remember: its Christmas! Military Units are always welcome.
No items should be thrown or distributed from the moving float or vehicle pulling them. We suggest that you have folks around your unit to hand out the candy directly. Please return your parade applications no later than Friday, November 16th – in order for the line-up to be mailed following Thanksgiving. Be sure to check the Charleston City website for up to date information.
