Professional photographer Steven Wayne Rotsch and Three Rivers Avian Center staff team up to
give amateur and professional photographers the opportunity to capture images of many of West
Virginia\’s raptors in natural settings. Twelve or more birds of prey will be modeling for the
cameras, including a Golden Eagle, American Kestrel, Barn Owl, Red-tailed Hawks, Broad-winged
Hawk, Peregrine Falcon and Great Horned Owl among others. All raptors will be available during
both morning and afternoon sessions.
Photographers may also pick up technical tips as needed in Adobe Photoshop CS2 during one-on-
one sessions with instructors, as well as species specific natural history and behavioral notes
from the TRAC staff. Those who sign up for a full day will have lunch provided on site. Since
these birds are used to being around people they are excellent subjects. In one day,
participants will take photographs of these raptors that would take a lifetime to duplicate in
the wild, if at all. All photograph sessions will be outdoors, so dress appropriately. In case
of rain, shelters will be made available. Located on 102 acre wildlife sanctuary in the New
River Gorge near Hinton.
