Tuesday nights with the Bob Thompson Unit

25 November 2009 679 views One Comment

bobEvery Tuesday, the Jazz Tradition returns as The Bob Thompson Unit performs at The Boulevard Tavern.

One of Charleston’s home grown band, it’s headed by legendary Bob Thompson, whose music has delighted listeners from around the world. He is joined by Tim Court on dums, Doug Payne on saxophone, Chris Allen on bass and Ryan Kennedy on guitars.

A virtuoso on the piano, Bob Thompson didn’t seem like he would be playing the instrument when he was just a kid. He had no interest in learning how to play the piano, but was finally able to learn in junior high school. Piano soon became his life, and he formed jazz bands while a student at the West Virginia State College, which started his career in music.

Bob Thompson continues to play in clubs in Charleston, despite gaining international acclaim. He also conducts workshops to teach piano.

The Bob Thompson Unit performs every Tuesday starting on November 24th at The Boulevard Tavern on 806 Kanawha Boulevard East. Show starts at 9pm. For inquiries and reservations, call (304) 205-7951.

Bob is one of my all time favorites. Use to live in Charleston and see him weekly. Just happened to be thinking of him and wondered what he was doing. Saw the release party too late or I would have made it. Have been looking for a reason to come visit all of my old friends in Charleston and that would have been the perfect time. :(

Had his CD playing in my car here in DC and some gentleman while walking into Wegmans stopped and said he loved my music who is it.
I was delighted to say a friend of mine Bob Thompson.

You should come to DC Bob they would love you. I have some perfect spots for you.
