Vandalia Gathering 2016

The 40th Annual Vandalia Gathering is happening this weekend in Charleston, WV.

Celebration of traditional arts, music, and dance will commence on Friday, May 27 at the Culture Center Theater with an awards ceremony and the presentation of the Vandalia Award, West Virginia’s highest folk-life honor. It will be followed with a performance and tribute to the award-winning fiddler, Elmer Rich, by Mark Crabtree.

On Saturday, May 28, the festivities begin at 10:30 am with activities all around the West Viginia Capitol Grounds. There will be food vendors, craft circle, family activities, flatfoot and square dancing, and contests for various folk instruments like the fiddle, banjo, and mandolin. There will also be Appalachian Heritage Dancing at the Culture Center Great Hall.

The celebration continues on Sunday, with more food, vendors, crafts, family activities, and contests for banjo, flat pick guitar, dulcimer, and liars.
