The New River is one of the oldest rivers in the world and the gorge that it has carved through southern West Virginia creates important habitat for rare and endangered species. Join a park ranger from New River Gorge National River to learn about some of the amazing natural and cultural resources that make the park unique enough to be a part of our national park system. Ruins of coal mining and railroad towns, timbering operations, and early subsistence farms tell the story of the important role this area played in the industrialization of our nation. Learn more about your national park!
