Description: The West Virginia Symphony Orchestra’s 2010-20 11 Symphonic Series season begins with its annual “Opening Night Celebration” on Friday and Saturday, September 10 & 11, 2010. This special concert also commemorates Artistic Director Grant Cooper’s 10th Season with the WVSO. Both performances will take place at 8 p.m. at the Clay Center for the Arts & Sciences of West Virginia.
This program features two of the world’s most renowned classical musicians: David Kim, Concertmaster of the Philadelphia Orchestra and Carter Brey, Principal Cellist with the New York Philharmonic. They will be performing Johannes Brahms’ virtuosic Double Concerto for Violin and Cello for the first time together. Also on the program is Sergei Rachmaninoff’s whimsical Symphonic Dances.
Now in his tenth season, Maestro Grant Cooper, Artistic Director & Conductor of the WVSO will conduct the concerts, which are sponsored in part by BrickStreet Insurance.
