The musical is based on the movie 9 to 5, which starred Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, and Dolly Parton. It’s the story of three female co-workers who were pushed to frustration by their bosses with less than savory character. It is set in the year 1979, back when it was still a man’s world.
The broadway adaptation was staged in 2009 and received 15 Drama Desk nominations and 4 Tony Awards nominations. The musical has toured across the United States and the United Kingdom in 2011 and 2012.
The local production stars Rebecca Mullins at Violet, Elizabeth Cary Brown as Judy, and Rudi Raynes as Doralee.
