Charleston Light Opera Guild

Violin playerA non-profit organization, the Charleston Light Opera Guild is made up of volunteers who are passionate about opera. Dedicated to providing high-quality, reasonably priced musical theater to the people of Charleston and the Kanawha Valley, the troupe has staged over 175 productions since its founding in 1949.

The Charleston Light Opera Guild is located at Charleston’s revitalized West Side, on the corner of Tennessee and Roane streets (the former Weekley Memorial Chruch). The building features a 255-seat pew-style seating theatre, with a balcony and the old church’s original stained glass windows. The building is also fitted with a kitchen, gathering room, dressing rooms, carpentry shop, storage space for costumes, lights, sound equipment, props and sets collected over the years.
