Are you and your friends looking for a truly spooky adventure this Halloween? How about spending a night at the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum, where apparitions, unexplained voices and sounds, and paranormal activities are not uncommon. The Asylum is located in Weston, an hour and a half drive from Charleston, WV.
Ghost Hunts are scheduled for next week, from 11:30 pm until 6:00 am. There are two hunts: The October Ghost Hunts, where participants will be given a brief paranormal tour of the main building, and will be given time to explore on their own or with experienced ghost hunting guides; and the Medical/Forensics/Geriatrics Ghost Hunt, where participants can investigate the Medical Center, the Forensics, and the Geriatrics Buildings. Tours are scheduled for October 31, November 1 and 2, and costs $100 per person. Reservations must be made in advance for both tours. For inquiries and reservations, call the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum at (304) 269-5070 or e-mail them at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum, later renamed as the Weston State Hospital, was built in the mid 1800’s, designed by renowned architect Richard Andrews. It follows the Kirkbride plane that called for long rambling wings, gave the building ample natural light and fresh air. The original hospital was able to house 250 patients in 1864, but reached up to an overcrowded 2,400 in the 1950’s. Many of the mentally sick patients have lived and died here, and many has questioned whether they are still living in the asylum even in the afterlife.
