March 3 saw the touchdown of Spirit Airlines’ inaugural flight from Fort Lauderdale, FL at Charleston, WV’s Yeager Airport. The low cost carrier has added Charleston to its route map, as it answers the growing need for a direct connection between the two cities.
Welcomed with a water cannon salute, the Airbus 319 from Fort Lauderdale arrived to carry passengers from the West Virginia capital to Florida. Many of those who booked for the first flight are local Charleston residents taking advantage of Spirit’s low fares and the convenience of a direct flight. With fares going as low as $21 one-way excluding taxes, flying with Spirit Airlines is indeed the cheapest and easiest option for traveling to Florida.
Flights to Fort Lauderdale is every Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday at 6pm, while the return flight to Charleston are on the same days at 5:30pm. On May 5, 2011, Spirit Airlines will be starting another route to Myrtle Beach, SC, flying every S-T-Th, 12:40pm from Chaleston to Myrtle Beach and 5:05pm, Myrtle Beach to Charleston.
