This recent addition in Charleston’s growing restaurant scene was met with much enthusiasm, especially those who are fond of Mexican cuisine. The restaurant specializes in Northern Mexican cuisine, particularly from Sonora, where executive chef and co-owner Frank Gonzales’ family hails from. The food that comes out of his kitchen are recipes of the family that has been passed down through generations.
The recipes rely on the staples of a Sonoran kitchen: garlic, onion, corn, tomato, beans, squash, cinnamon, anise, cloves, oregano, cumin, chili powder, vanilla, cacao, ancho chile powder, and epazote, a Mexican herb with a distinct taste.
Mi Cocina de Amor offers a lunch special priced at $6.99 from Tuesday to Saturday, 11 am to 2 pm. Choices vary from taco, burrito, salad, taquito, or their chile verde cheese crisp.
